Where can I download poly ring tones for my phone?

This is will be moved to our upcoming ringtone FAQ section. I'm writing it in the blog for now.

So, what's really about  those poly ringtones ?  

Polyphonic phone rintgones are, in fact, MIDI tunes. Basically a MIDI song is a set of instructions for musical instruments. It's like an orchestra, because MIDI contains information for playing multiple instruments(tracks) simultaneously(with no vocals, however). Many people use MIDI songs for karaoke, because the original voice cannot be embedded in a MIDI tune.

Polyphonic ringtones are an evolutive step further than monophonic ringtones , which cannot play but musical notes on a single track (no simultaneous sounds).  Nokia composer phone tones are good examples of cell phone mono ringtones.

Midi files are quite small, since they contain device instructions, rather than the digitized wavesound . This feature may also make MIDI files sound different depending on the device they're played on. A mobile phone MIDI capability is often  featured as "64 channel polyphonic sound". This means it can play as many as 64 musical instruments at a time, which is good enough for most songs.

Okay, why am I telling you this? Because MIDI files have been around since the nineties, and the Internet is full of them. MIDI files are really free, and the small filesize makes them easy to download. Just do a Google search for "download MIDI" and you'll see what I'm talking about. (or check http://www.mididb.com/ )

  The disadvantage is that if you're downloading on your computer, you'll need a USB datacable/bluetooth adapter and software to transfer those MIDIs to your phone. A free alternative is to browse the MIDI internet sites using your Internet-enabled phone. Google translates regular websites in to mobile compatible formats using its on-the fly transcoder. Just use Google search on your mobile device to find you MIDIs.
