Rudy Vallée (July 28, 1901 - July 3, 1986) was a popular American singer, actor, bandleader, and entertainer. Born Hubert Prior Vallée in Island Pond, Vermont, the son of Charles Alphonse and Catherine Lynch Vallée. Both of his parents were born and raised in Vermont, but their parents were immigrants; the Vallées being of French Canadian origin, while the Lynches were from Ireland. Rudy grew up in Westbrook, Maine. Having played drums in his high school band, Vallee played clarinet and saxophone in various bands around New England in his youth. In 1917, he decided to enlist for World War I, but was discharged when the Navy authorities found out that he was only 15. He enlisted in Portland, Maine on March 29, 1917, under the false birthdate of July 28, 1899. He was discharged at the Naval Training Station, Newport, Rhode Island, on May 17, 1917 with 41 days of active service. [1] From 1924 through 1925, he played with the "Savoy Havana Band" in London. He then returned to the States to obtain a degree in Philosophy from Yale and to form his own band, "Rudy Vallee and the Connecticut Yankees." With this band, which featured two violins, two saxophones, a piano, a banjo and drums, he started taking vocals (supposedly reluctantly at first). He had a rather thin, wavering tenor voice and seemed more at home singing sweet ballads than attempting vocals on jazz numbers. However, his singing, together with his suave manner and handsome boyish looks, attracted great attention, especially from young women[citation needed]. Vallee was given a recording contract and in 1928, he started performing on the radio. Vallee's recording career began in 1928 recording for Columbia Records' cheap labels (Harmony, Velvet Tone, and Diva). He signed to Victor in February 1929 and remained through late 1931, leaving after a heated dispute with company executives over title selections. He then recorded for the short-lived, but extremely popular "Hit of the Week" label (which sold records laminated onto cardboard). In August 1932, he signed with Columbia and stayed with them through 1933; he returned to Victor in June 1933. His records were issued on Victor's new budget label, Bluebird, until November 1933 when he was moved up the full-priced Victor label. He stayed with Victor until signing with ARC in 1936, who released his records on their Perfect, Melotone, Conqueror and Romeo labels until 1937 when he returned to Victor. (1982) Dexy's Midnight Runners are a British New Wave and Northern Soul band who achieved their major success in the early-mid 1980s. Kevin Rowland (vocals, guitar) and Kevin 'Al' Archer (vocals, guitar) founded the band in 1978 in Birmingham, England, naming the band after Dexedrine, a recreational drug popular amongst Northern Soul fans at the time. Big Jim Paterson (trombone), Geoff 'JB' Blythe (saxophone), Steve 'Babyface' Spooner (alto saxophone), Pete Saunders (keyboard), Pete Williams (bass) and Bobby 'Jnr' Ward(drums) formed the first line-up of the band to record a single, 'Dance Stance' (1979). The song only reached number 40 in the British charts, but the next single, 'Geno' -- about Geno Washington -- (featuring new recruits, Andy Leek (keyboards) and Andy 'Stoker' Growcott (drums)) was a British Number One in 1980. The band members were disappointed with their share of the profits, and soon stole the master tapes of Searching for the Young Soul Rebels, their debut LP, in order to renegotiate the deal. The album was released later in 1980 and became a massive success. After the next single, 'There There My Dear' was a hit, Rowland insisted on choosing the uncommercial, 'Keep It, Part Two' for the following single. It was a failure, and most of the band members quit, angered over continual personality problems with Rowland. Archer eventually formed The Blue Ox Babes, while Blythe, Williams, Stoker and Mick Talbot (ex-Merton Parkas, who had recently joined on keyboards) left to form The Bureau. Paterson stayed with Rowland, who added Billy Adams (guitar/banjo), Seb Shelton (drums, formerly of Secret Affair), Micky Billingham (keyboard), Brian Maurice (alto saxophone), Paul Speare (tenor saxophone) and Steve Wynne (bass), releasing 'Plan B', 'Show Me' and 'Liars A to E' in 1981 without much success. Rowland then recruited fiddle players, Helen O'Hara (from Archer's new group, the Blue Ox Babes), Steve Brennan and Roger MacDuff, known collectively as 'The Emerald Express'. With the addition of new bass player, Giorgio Kilkenny this line-up recorded Too-Rye-Ay in 1982, a Celtic folk and soul hybrid. The first single, 'The Celtic Soul Brothers', was mildly successful but 'Come on Eileen' soon followed, and became a Number One hit in both the UK and the United States. Feeling that their role in the group had diminished following the arrival of the fiddles, the brass section of Paterson, Speare and Maurice left to form The TKO Horns, while Kilkenny was replaced by Johnny Edwards on bass and Billingham left to join General Public. With the singles, 'Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)' (a Van Morrison cover) and 'Let's Get This Straight (From The Start)' maintaining their popularity, the group continued to tour until 1983 with a nucleus of Rowland, Adams, O'Hara and Shelton augmented by other musicians. After a two year break, Dexy's returned in 1985 with the critically-acclaimed album, Don't Stand Me Down, featuring Rowland, Adams, O'Hara and Nicky Gatfield together with various seasoned performers including Vincent Crane (ex-Atomic Rooster), Julian Littman and Tim Dancy (who had been Al Green's drummer). Rowland at first refused to issue any singles from the album, and by the time 'This Is What She's Like' was released, it was too late to save the album from commercial failure. The group disbanded the following year after a brief return to the charts with the single, 'Because Of You' (which was used as the theme tune to a British sitcom, 'Brush Strokes'), and Rowland became a solo artist with the release of 1988's poorly-received album, The Wanderer. Despite spending much of the 1990s suffering from financial problems and drug addiction, Rowland made plans to reform Dexy's together with Big Jim Paterson, although these resulted in no more than a solitary TV performance in 1993. Returning once more as a solo performer, Rowland signed to Creation Records, releasing an album of cover versions called My Beauty in 1999, which sold poorly. The demise of Creation meant that the planned follow-up album which would, once again have featured Dexy's Midnight Runners was never made. However, in April 2003 the group announced that they would be reforming for a tour and a new greatest hits album.

ENGLISH: -- Come out with the Truth Mr. Bush jr. and Mr. Bush sen. (Former Boss of the CIA) -- The US government denied having had contact with extraterrestrials over the past 60 years. The governments of France and England have recently made public their records and pictures of UFO sightings. On the 20th of May 2007 several local Peruvian TV Channels (Canal 4 and ATV, Canal 9) brought a report with pictures that showed a large number of UFOs which were photographed over Lima, Peru at about 12 am on that day. ATV stated that these were the first photos of this kind taken in Peru, as never before had such a large amount of UFOs been sighted. The OVNIs (Spanish word for UFOs) were seen in the sky over the capital of Peru for about 30 minutes. All UFOs were moving rapidly in various directions, going up then down with incredible speed - as only UFOs seem to be able to do. People on the street were very excited and were shouting and yelling: Look! Do you see it? What is it .....? (The inserted clips are photos taken in Mexico, shown by Mexican Television Stations during the years 2004 and 2005). Commander Julio Chamorro representing the Peruvian air force mentions in the screening by ATV that the objects were not visible on their radar screens - the UFOs seem to have a radar protective shield. He further states that they are neither light reflections nor weather balloons and that they have no explanation for them. We believe that the air force obviously does not wish to take a stand on this matter in view of the fact that the US air force has for the last 60 years classed all UFO films as top secret. The final commentary on ATV was a sentence that has often been heard before: "It seems that we are not alone in the Universe! " Change of an Era - UFOs - OVNIs - May 2007 . Preamble: I absolutely HATED history as a kid, BUT, bein' fairly observant for a kid, I realized that most older adults LOVED the topic, so I figured that one day, when I got MUCH older, I'd begin to enjoy history too . . . . . those days have apparently arrived! LOL Brighton (earlier known as "Brighthelmstone") began as a Saxon village when the Saxons conquered Sussex in the 5th century AD. In 1313 Brighton gained a charter. This was a document granting the merchants the right to form their own local government and certain other privileges. A fish market was held daily on the beach. There was also a weekly pig market and corn market, as well as a general market where all kinds of goods were sold. The earliest map of Brighton shows a little town about one quarter of a mile square. There were 4 streets, North Street, West Street, East Street and South Street (kinda makes SENSE huh? LOL). In the middle of the 4 streets were many small land holdings. "The Lanes", highlighted in this video, started as pathways between them all. There were also fishermen's huts along the shore. The unneighborly French burned down Brighton in June 1514. This was easily done as nearly all the buildings were of wood, with thatched roofs, and the buildings were all packed tightly together (as they are to this day). In 1545 the French returned, but warning beacons were lit, and brave Englishmen from all the surrounding countryside rushed to the town to defend it, and the French, after sustaining large amounts of casualties, were driven back into the sea. By 1580 there were about 400 fishermen living in Brighton; the overall population was around 2,500. By the standards of the time, Brighton was a fair sized market town. Brighton's popularity and size grew, when, in 1750, Dr Richard Russell, a resident of Lewes, wrote a book in which he claimed that bathing in sea water was very good for your health. Rich people began to come to seaside Brighton hoping to be cured of their various illnesses. At first the travelers were a trickle, but later became a flood. In 1783 the Prince of Wales and his friends visited Brighton which ensured its popularity. In 1841 a railway to London opened which made it much easier for visitors to reach Brighton. By 1848 it was estimated that 250,000 people visited Brighton each year. West Pier was built in 1866. Palace Pier was built in 1899. When World War II began in 1939 many schoolchildren from London were evacuated to Brighton to escape the bombing. Since Brighton was, of course, a seaside resort rather than a manufacturing town it was anticipated it would escape bombing. Yet Brighton was not as safe as people thought it would be, and the town suffered considerable damage as a result of bombing. There were 56 raids in all, and over 5,000 houses were damaged or destroyed. Today about 8 million tourists a year descend on the town (no warning beacons are lit for this type of invader however LOL), and "The Lanes" today, are a wonderful mix of shops selling all manner of things from antiques to jewelry to memorabilia, and there are cafes and pubs in the area too, and you REALLY get an idea of how jammed together the old buildings were "way back when", and how convoluted the maze of pathways between them were in the days before city planning. Here are a couple of good websites for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brighton http://www.picturesofengland.com/history/brighton-history.html The song I chose is Keith Urban's "Everybody".
